Photography terms you should know.
aperture - size of the lens opening, controlled by the f-stop. The Holga has two f-stops, although they are fairly close in size.
depth-of-field - The area of a photograph that is in focus, which is determined by by the f-stop. The smaller the f-stop, the more of the photo will appear to be in focus. Conversely, the larger the f-stop, the less of the photo will appear to be in focus. Also, longer lenses have a shallower depth-of-field while wider lenses a wider one.
film speed - The sensitivity to light of a given film, measured as ISO. The higher the ISO, the more sensitive the film is to light.
medium format - The Holga uses 120 size film which is also called medium format. Large format is 4x5 and larger while small format is 35mm or smaller.
shutter - The mechanical device (in the case of the Holga) that opens the lens, exposing the film to light. The shutter is controlled by a shutter release.
vignetting - The gradual darkening towards the edges of a photograph (or drawing). The poor quality Holga lens with its light falloff causes this to occur.
